ABOUT THE HOST

I started this podcast as a way to talk about true crime because no one in my immediate life wants to talk about true crime as much as I do. Sound familiar?

A little bit about myself: After highschool I floated around until I enlisted in the US Navy, which last a little over a year until I was dumb enough to get married to a 26 year old when I was just 19 (also in the Navy, hello daddy issues). When that ended less than a year later I ended up back home, broke and with no where to go. Eventually I made my way out to North Dakota where me, a rebellious young woman from a few broken homes, molested as child and wanting to burn the world to the ground got into legal trouble for the first AND ONLY time in my life. Good times. After making it back to my hometown in Colorado I managed to get myself into a domestically abusive relationship where I ended up pregnant. (You find what you grew up with). After my first child was born the relationship unsurprisingly didnt get better and the abusive drunk had to go. After going to hair school and working for a bit as a single mother I was lucky enough to find my now partner of going on 13 years and the father of my youngest child. See he had a kid, I had a kid and then we had one together and decided that was enough. When we found out I was pregnant (oops) I told my now husband "one of us has to go to school" because lets be honest we made peanuts and Colorado was expensive. His answer literally was "Not it". So off I went, to college, while pregnant and working full time, simultaneously raising a 3 year old.

6 LONG years later I graduated in the MONTH that COVID hit the US. Yep April of 2020, oh yes I had my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science majoring in Cyber Security but I had no f*cking clue what I was doing, immediately feeling imposter syndrome and still feeling like I didnt really know much but hoping for the best. Instead I get a call from my children's school saying MY kids were high risk and it would probably be best for them to do an entire year of online school, away from Covid.

Thankfully my husband was able to keep us afloat as we had now found ourselves living in KC (the place I was born but never lived because its MUCH cheaper than Colorado and we got our first family home) while I would help my children with school for the foreseeable future. Putting my dreams and hard work at a career I didnt truly have a passion for but was rather told would be good for me. (Dont do that). After the pandemic settled down and us mole people came out of our shells, I was unable to find a job with my degree. I had no experience, no work history since before school just cutting hair and I guess the professionals didnt care how well I cut hair. Instead I went back to cutting hair for a bit, to help the family but I had forgotten one thing.... I was now post 2 C-sections of large babies and I was much older than I had once been. Well at least my body was. Since trying to cut hair for a while, I have dealt with ongoing health issues ranging from bulging back disks to system wide inflammation arthritis (good stuff) and a myriad of other issues. Yes I am one of those people that if it CAN happen to someone IT DOES happen to me. So after always having an interest in true crime I would say around Covid is when my interest peaked and after listening to numerous podcasts and shows it became an obsession with no one to talk to. After some encouragement from my husband I decided to take the leap and build everything (including the computer, or at least software) from the ground up ON MY OWN and do this thing we now called The Kill File.

Starting as someone who couldnt stick with something long enough to ever complete it, to now having a useless degree, I dedicate myself to producing this podcast every week, rain or shine, sickness or health for you my listeners and for me, myself. A place where we share more than just true crime cases and stories but a place you can feel seen, heard and understood. Maybe we aren't the most popular people in the world, or maybe we are either way we are at least INTERESTING.

Find the podcast anywhere you get your podcast fix every Monday for new episodes and find out a few things along the way like I am an atheist from a Catholic background and am a part of the LGBTQIA+ community and so is my family.
